The long tail is a statistical curve that describes how the division of labor looks like in for instance non-profit networks. It starts high and falls rapidly continuously to a long tail. A number of activists such as about 10%, stands for half of all activities. Then there are many others that are rarely active in special operations.
There are those who think that democracy does not require our engagement and that we can let those elected to manage the mission for consideration. They say that when digital democracy will take over the political system at all levels, we will have to prioritize and to choose to engage us on issues we care about but this opinion can be a little doubtful.
When we need medical help we visit a specialist doctor for help, but this option does not take away from us the responsibility to know as much as possible about health and healthy living. The more we care by ourselves, the less we need specialist help.
To entrust politicians, law-specialists and other specialists to manage the mission for a fee, does not absolve us of the huge responsibility to control by ourselves the basic law (constitution), the community at all as the common owning, the common status of the citizens and the governing.
E.g. according to the Declaration of Human Rights, we are free and equal in dignity and rights. Unfortunately, these words are today empty diplomatic phrases, and are by many citizens acknowledged as valid. It is our very big responsibility to realize this dream, with a true global electronic constitution.
It is obvious that we need to prioritize and it is obvious that paid specialists will bear all the services in the community, but direct democratic nomocracy places a huge responsibility on us citizens of the world to control society with our justice constitutions, with our common sense and with our good conscience.
In this case, the curve has to be straight. Everyone will feel the same need and the same duty to be with, because the question is about good life, death, health, education, work, housing, welfare and more, for all of us.
In the same way as everybody sprints today and hunt “hot” money, in a straight curve, everyone will be interested for just laws, because everyone will understand that e-laws in the future will be real hard currency. Money shall be interesting only to museums and to coin and banknote collectors.
Look what happens today (Dec. 2010) in Europe. They consider dividing the Euro…!!! “fight” about money and living standard and endless discuss international agreements that one day has to result to global laws!
